    Info 1 – Most of the Debian based systems provides updated firefox version in their default repositories. So you can also try with package manager. $ sudo apt update && sudo apt install firefox

    This article will help you to install Firefox 56 on CentOS, RedHat, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, LinuxMint CloudLinux Linux and other Linux operating systems. This article will use Firefox 56 compiled code available for Linux systems, which doesn’t require any compilation etc. We need to just extract the archive file and start using it.

    Step 1 – Remove Existing Version

    First remove any existing version of Firefox from your system if installed using rpm. Red Hat based system use following command.

    $ sudo yum remove firefox #Redhat based systems $ sudo dnf remove firefox #Fedora 22+ systems $ sudo apt-get remove firefox #Debian based systems

    Alos unlink or rename the current firefox binary (if available). For example, you current binary location is /usr/bin/firefox.

    $ unlink /usr/bin/firefox ## Or rename file $ mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox_bak

    Step 2 – Download Latest Firefox for Linux

    Download the latest Firefox archive from here (32 bit) and here (64 bit). At the time of last update of this article Firefox 56 is the latest stable version available. Download Firefox 51 source code as per your system architecture using one of following commands.

    # cd /usr/local # wget

    To download Firefox 32-bit version visit here.

    After downloading the latest version of Firefox archive on your system, let’s extract is using the following command.

    # tar xvjf firefox-56.0.1.tar.bz2

    Step 3 – Configure and Run Firefox on Linux

    Firefox source is completely pre-compiled and we don’t have to do anything to make it running on the system. We just need to create a soft-link of Firefox binary file to systems bin directory to make it accessible from anywhere in the system.

    $ sudo ln -s /usr/local/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

    Now start Firefox using following command from Linux terminal. You may also use GUI menu to start Firefox on your system.

    # firefox &

    install firefox
