I'm working on an actual Trolling Depth Calculator using some of my mechanical engineering skills. Its an actual engineering model, not just a table of data, or interpolation/extrapolation. This means I can enter any parameters, such as line type, lure weight, rod height, speed, shad type, number of teaser shads, etc. and I can generate the depth. Its a work in progress, and there's not much data to compare to except the trolling depth chart many of us have seen (trolling-depth-calculator) which seems to have a lot of holes and ambiguities. I can do single parachute/bucktail jigs, umbrella rigs and tandems (average depth) right now.
If anyone has any further data they know is accurate and detailed, I would appreciate the help. I'm planning on translating this code into an iOS/Android app once I have time and can work out some IP issues. I'd probably charge a couple bucks for it once its finished to cover testing and evaluation and other related expenses.
To give back to the fishing community at TF, I'm giving some limited amount of this data out for free.
I can take a 'couple' of rig requests if you are curious, please give me:
-line diameter and type (mono, braid, wire, etc.)
-boat speed (compared to water)
-rod height (from tip to water level)
-Line Length range desired
-Number of teaser shads/shad size/umbrella weight/umbrella size/umbrella arm #s (for umbrella rig)
